| We sell remaindered books. When a new title is going to be released the publishers can only guess at how many of that title they are going to sell. A lot of the time they guess wrong and print too many. They send out all the books to regular book stores and department stores and they sit on the shelf waiting to be purchased. Eventually the popularity of that title will wane and a few of those books will just be taking up valuable room. In the meantime, a new title is released and because it's newer it is generally assumed that it will be more popular in the short term. Because of this, the retailer would prefer to fill the shelf space that the first book currently occupies with the new title that they hope will sell better.
